Overview
The Heat Transfer through Pin-Fin apparatus is designed to study the effectiveness and efficiency of extended surfaces used to enhance heat dissipation. A set of pin fins of varying geometries is mounted on a heated base, and temperature distributions along the fins are measured using thermocouples. Students can compare fin performance under natural and forced convection conditions, determine fin efficiency, and validate the theoretical fin equations. The apparatus demonstrates why fins are used in heat sinks, heat exchangers, and electronic cooling devices.
