Overview
The Parallel Flow and Counter Flow Heat Exchanger apparatus uses a double-pipe configuration to study and compare the thermal performance of two fundamental flow arrangements. Hot and cold fluids flow through the inner and outer pipes, and inlet and outlet temperatures of both streams are measured for each configuration. Students calculate LMTD (Log Mean Temperature Difference), overall heat transfer coefficient (U), NTU, and effectiveness for both arrangements. The experiment reinforces the superiority of counter-flow arrangement in achieving greater heat recovery and higher outlet temperatures.
