Overview
The Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger apparatus is a scaled educational version of the most widely used industrial heat exchanger type. Hot fluid flows through a bundle of tubes while cold fluid flows over the tubes within a shell, enabling efficient heat exchange between the two streams. The unit allows measurement of overall heat transfer coefficient, LMTD correction factors, fouling resistance, and effectiveness using NTU method. Students gain insight into baffle design, tube arrangement, and flow patterns that are central to industrial heat exchanger selection and design.
