Overview
The Single Effect Evaporator apparatus simulates an industrial evaporation process where a dilute liquid feed is concentrated by evaporating water using steam as the heating medium. It operates at atmospheric or sub-atmospheric pressure using a steam chest and a vapour space with condenser. Students measure feed concentration, product concentration, evaporation rate, steam consumption, and calculate steam economy. The unit demonstrates the principles of evaporator design, boiling point rise, and the effect of vacuum operation on energy efficiency.
