Overview

The Stefan Boltzmann Apparatus is designed to experimentally verify that the total radiative power emitted by a black body is proportional to the fourth power of its absolute temperature, as stated by the Stefan-Boltzmann law. A hemispherical black body cavity is heated to different temperatures while a radiation sensor measures the incident radiation. Students plot radiation intensity versus temperature and verify the fourth-power relationship. The apparatus demonstrates fundamental principles of blackbody radiation essential for understanding furnace design, solar collectors, pyrometry, and space thermal engineering.
