Absorption in Packed Bed

AEC-MSTL-010

A packed bed gas absorption column for studying counter-current gas scrubbing and mass transfer coefficient determination.

#PackedBedAbsorption#GasScrubbing#MassTransferCoefficient#GasLiquidContact
Calibration cert included 48-hr quote

Overview

The Absorption in Packed Bed apparatus uses a glass column packed with random packing (Raschig or Pall rings) through which a gas stream containing a soluble component is passed counter-currently against a descending liquid solvent. The large wetted surface area of the packing provides efficient gas-liquid contact for absorption. Students measure inlet and outlet gas concentrations, liquid flow rate, and pressure drop to calculate HTU, NTU, KGa (volumetric mass transfer coefficient), and flooding velocity. The packed bed absorber is the most widely used gas-liquid contactor in chemical engineering for acid gas removal, ammonia scrubbing, and emission control.
