Overview
The Rotary Dryer apparatus is a small-scale continuous dryer where a rotating inclined drum tumbles wet granular or lumpy solids through a stream of hot air. The tumbling action exposes fresh wet surfaces and promotes efficient heat and mass transfer between the solid material and drying air. Students determine moisture removal rate, residence time, drying efficiency, and study the effect of drum speed, inclination angle, and air temperature on drying performance. The rotary dryer is one of the most common industrial dryers used for fertilisers, minerals, sand, sugar, and food products.
