Overview
The Fluidized Bed Dryer apparatus passes hot air upward through a bed of wet granular material at sufficient velocity to fluidise the particles, creating an intimate gas-solid contact with excellent heat and mass transfer. The fluidisation provides uniform temperature throughout the bed and dramatically reduces drying time compared to tray drying. Students study the pressure drop-velocity relationship to identify minimum fluidisation velocity, measure drying kinetics, and determine heat transfer coefficients between gas and particles. The fluidized bed dryer is widely used in pharmaceutical tablet granule drying, food powder production, and chemical process industries.
