Overview
The Batch Crystallizer apparatus is a jacketed glass vessel in which a saturated solution is cooled in a controlled manner to induce supersaturation and crystallisation. An agitator maintains suspension while temperature is lowered according to a programmed cooling profile, and crystal nucleation and growth are studied by sampling at intervals. Students measure crystal yield, crystal size distribution, and purity at different cooling rates and agitation speeds.
