Overview
The Wetted Wall Column provides a precisely defined mass transfer geometry for isolating gas-phase and liquid-phase resistances independently. A thin film of liquid flows down the inner wall of a vertical tube while gas flows through the core, enabling derivation of both individual and overall mass transfer coefficients from measured absorption rates. The well-defined geometry makes the wetted wall column a powerful instrument for testing theoretical mass transfer models such as the penetration theory, film theory, and surface renewal theory. It is used in fundamental research as well as in teaching advanced mass transfer and absorption concepts.
