Overview
The Control Valve Characteristics apparatus allows students to measure and plot the flow characteristic curves (linear, equal percentage, and quick-opening) of different control valves at various pressure drops. Both inherent characteristics (under constant pressure drop) and installed characteristics (in a piping system with varying pressure drop) are studied. Students determine the rangeability, valve coefficient (Cv), and flow characteristics graphically, understanding why different valve characteristics are chosen for specific process control applications. The apparatus provides essential practical knowledge for process engineers involved in control system design and valve sizing.
