Overview

The Level Measurement by Air Purge (Bubbler) Method apparatus demonstrates a widely used industrial technique for measuring liquid level in tanks containing corrosive, slurry, or viscous liquids without direct contact of instruments with the fluid. A small, constant flow of air is purged through a dip tube submerged to a fixed depth; the back pressure on the air line equals the hydrostatic head of liquid above the tube end. Students measure and calibrate the relationship between back pressure and liquid level, study the effect of air purge rate on accuracy, and compare readings with a direct-reading sight gauge. The technique is common in chemical, effluent, and slurry handling plants.
