Overview
The Temperature Control Trainer is a complete closed-loop temperature control system in which the temperature of a fluid or solid is regulated by a PID controller acting on an electric heater as the final control element. A temperature transmitter (RTD or thermocouple) senses the process temperature and feeds the signal back to the controller. Students tune the PID parameters using different methods, observe set point changes and disturbance rejection, and study the effect of dead time and time constant on controller performance. The slow thermal dynamics of the process make temperature control ideal for demonstrating integrating and lag-dominated processes.
