Overview
The Steam Jet Refrigeration System uses a high-pressure steam ejector (jet pump) to draw water vapour from an evaporator at low pressure, lowering the boiling point of water in the evaporator and producing a refrigerating effect. The mixed steam and vapour are condensed in a barometric or surface condenser, completing the refrigeration cycle without any moving parts. Students study the ejector performance, refrigerating effect, coefficient of performance (COP), and entrainment ratio at different steam pressures and evaporator temperatures. The system is used in large air conditioning plants and industrial cooling where low-grade steam is abundantly available.
