Overview
The Refrigeration Test Rig is a complete vapour compression refrigeration system with instrumented compressor, condenser, expansion device, and evaporator, designed for academic study of the standard refrigeration cycle. Temperature and pressure measurements at each state point allow construction of the P-h (pressure-enthalpy) diagram and calculation of all thermodynamic quantities. Students determine refrigerating effect, compressor work, condenser heat rejection, and coefficient of performance (COP), and compare with ideal cycle predictions. The rig provides a clear understanding of the vapour compression cycle that is the basis for almost all domestic and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
