Overview
The Split Air Conditioning Test Rig uses a standard split-type room air conditioner as the refrigeration plant, with additional instrumentation at key points in the refrigerant circuit to enable thermodynamic analysis of the cycle. A calorimeter room or load bank simulates the cooling load, allowing measurement of actual refrigerating capacity. Students measure COP, refrigerating capacity, compressor power, and the effect of varying room load and ambient temperature on system performance. The rig directly connects laboratory learning to real-world equipment that students are familiar with, making it an effective teaching tool for air conditioning fundamentals.
