Overview
The Window Air Conditioning Test Rig uses an instrumented standard window air conditioner as the experimental apparatus, with additional pressure and temperature sensors at key refrigerant circuit points. A calorimeter box or electrical load bank simulates the indoor cooling load to allow capacity measurement under controlled conditions. Students measure refrigerating capacity, COP, compressor power, and condenser heat rejection, and plot the P-h diagram of the operating cycle. The rig familiarises students with a real-world domestic refrigeration product while teaching them how to instrument and analyse vapour compression systems.
