Overview
The Computerised Bench Top Cold Storage Trainer is a miniature insulated cold room connected to a vapour compression refrigeration system, with a PC-based control and monitoring system. The trainer simulates the operation of a commercial cold store, including pull-down from ambient to storage temperature, steady-state operation under variable load, and periodic defrost cycles. Students study refrigeration load estimation, pull-down time, defrost cycle performance (electric or hot gas defrost), energy consumption, and the effect of door openings on cold room temperature recovery. The trainer provides practical skills directly applicable to food cold chain and pharmaceutical cold storage engineering.
