Overview
The Computerised Cooling Tower Test Bench is an instrumented induced or forced draft cooling tower in miniature, used to study the heat rejection performance of cooling towers. Hot water is sprayed over tower fill packing and cooled by evaporation and sensible heat transfer to an upward air stream, with the cooled water collected in the basin for recirculation. Students measure inlet and outlet water temperatures (range), wet-bulb temperature approach, air flow, water flow, and evaporation loss, and calculate tower characteristic (KaV/L), number of transfer units, and tower effectiveness. The computerised data acquisition system logs all parameters in real time and calculates performance indices automatically.
