Overview
The Single Cylinder Two Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig consists of a small air-cooled 2-stroke spark-ignition engine coupled to a rope brake or hydraulic dynamometer for load measurement. Instrumentation includes a fuel burette for consumption measurement, thermocouples for exhaust temperature, and a tachometer for speed measurement. Students plot the performance curves of brake power, brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), and brake thermal efficiency against engine speed and load. The rig demonstrates the compact, high power-to-weight characteristics of 2-stroke engines and their simple construction, while revealing their higher fuel consumption and emissions compared to 4-stroke engines.
