Overview
The Three Cylinder Four Stroke Diesel Engine Test Rig features a multi-cylinder compression-ignition engine coupled to a hydraulic or eddy current dynamometer. The additional cylinders compared to single-cylinder rigs produce a smoother torque output and allow measurement of per-cylinder fuel contribution using cylinder cut-out tests. Students generate a full set of performance curves including brake power, BMEP, BSFC, thermal efficiency, and smoke opacity across the engine operating range. The multi-cylinder aspect also allows study of cylinder balancing, injection timing effects per cylinder, and comparison of single vs. multi-cylinder engine characteristics.
