Overview
The Four Cylinder Four Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig represents the most common automotive petrol engine configuration. Coupled to an eddy current or hydraulic dynamometer, the rig enables full performance characterisation including torque and power curves, fuel consumption map, and emission measurement across the engine speed and load range. Students study the effect of ignition timing, throttle position, and air-fuel ratio on performance and emissions. The rig closely replicates conditions in automotive engine development and calibration, making it suitable for both undergraduate teaching and applied research in vehicular emission reduction and fuel economy optimisation.
