Overview
The Single Cylinder Four Stroke Diesel Engine Test Rig is the workhorse of thermodynamics and IC engine teaching laboratories. The engine is loaded using a rope brake, hydraulic, or eddy current dynamometer, with complete instrumentation for fuel flow, air flow, exhaust temperature, and cooling water temperature measurement. Students generate brake power, BSFC, and efficiency curves, perform a complete heat balance, and study the effect of injection timing and compression ratio on performance. The single-cylinder diesel provides clear, repeatable data with minimal complexity, making it ideal for demonstrating fundamental diesel cycle thermodynamics.
