Overview
The Cam Analysis Apparatus allows experimental determination of follower displacement, velocity, and acceleration profiles for different cam profiles (uniform velocity, uniform acceleration, simple harmonic motion, cycloidal) and follower types (knife-edge, roller, flat-faced). Cams are driven at variable speeds by an electric motor with speed controller. Students plot displacement diagrams manually or using sensors, differentiate to obtain velocity and acceleration curves, and compare experimental results with theoretical profiles. The apparatus demonstrates the importance of cam profile selection on vibration, noise, and follower contact stress in engines, printing machines, and automated equipment.
